Party at the Olympics

If you’ve been living in a box and haven’t heard the women’s Canadian Hockey Team won a gold medal. Congrats, I say. But what? Some party poopers didn’t like the fact that the victorious ice babes celebrated winning one for the “Home Team” with beer and cigars.  The International Olympic Committee will investigate the actions of Canadian women’s hockey players who celebrated their gold medal victory Thursday night by swigging beer and smoking cigars on the ice in Vancouver. A number of players, including 18-year-old superstar Marie-Philip Poulin, were drinking alcohol on the ice following the team’s 2-0 defeat of the United States. Hmmm, let’s see the single greatest moment in your life and you have a couple of beers, I’m thinking the IOC should be happy they weren’t driving. (The legal drinking age in British Columbia is 19.) Players lingered for more than 70 minutes after the awards ceremony reveling in the arena. Gilbert Felli,  the IOC’s executive director of the Olympic Games who has his panties in a bunch over this, said that drinking in public was “not what we want to see” from athletes at an Olympic venue. Ah, that’s the problem, someone saw them, hippocrittical jerk. In other words, if they would have done it somewhere they weren’t seen by the media, it was alright. Steve Keough, a spokesman for the Canadian Olympic Committee, told the Associated Press, “We condone celebrations. … We don’t condone actions of irresponsibility. I think Canadians understand it’s quite an emotional moment for our team. It was not our intention to go against any IOC protocols.” I didn’t see any of the team’s parents out there trying to jerk them off the ice saying “Naughty, naughty.” Actually if they would have been one of my kids, I’d have brought the beer. Congrats ladies, we’ll be seeing you at the Zamboni races.

Beware of Bandits with the Munchies

Police in Columbus, Georgia are searching for a pair of hungry bandits who stole an order of chicken wings from a pizza delivery driver. Now you know times are really tough. Columbus Police say the 19-year-old Domino’s driver was approached outside a home Tuesday night by two men who asked for money. One of the men pointed a chrome pistol. No wonder they needed money, designer handgun maybe? Police say one of the men then said, “give me the wings.” Put your hands up and step away from the chicken wings. They fled the scene with the $36 order. So what do you do, shadow a delivery guy until he hits his destination and then rob him during delivery. I can see this showing up in some teen movie somewhere.

A US court has ruled that 'Zombies have free speech rights'

Court Rules Zombies have Freedown of Speech

If you’re a zombie fan, I know I am, you’re going to love this. A court rules that horror-movie style zombies have the right to free speech after a group of protesters dressed as zombies were arrested by Minnesota police. Do Zombies actually talk? I guess it depends on which movie you watch. A court has allowed a group of protesters dressed as zombies to continue with a lawsuit against police who arrested them for disorderly conduct. Were they eating anyone? The appeals court overturned a previous finding that the group had correctly been arrested over a 2006 protest in a shopping center. I’m impressed this made it to an appeals court. Their lawyer was obviously NOT a zombie.  The group had been wearing makeup designed to make them look like extras in a horror flick, with white faces, fake blood and black circles round their eyes. They then proceeded to stagger round the shops, urging consumers to “get your brains here”. Must be the brains they were selling was those of local law enforcement. They also carried audio equipment, which police described as “simulated weapons of mass destruction”, even though they were mobile phones. Apparently police got their intel from the same people George Bush did. The appeals court ruled that the police had no reason to imprison the protesters simply for “dressing as zombies, and walking erratically in downtown Minneapolis.” It seems to me that describes a lot of people in Minneapolis.

GAY MARRIAGES BOOST TOURISM, TICKLING BANDIT, BORNEO BIGFOOT, AND KIDNAPPED FOR DISHES

 GAY MARRIAGES BOOST CALIFORNIA TOURISM

Now that California has legalized gay marriage, it has produced an unexpected boon, tourism. Yes, tourism. Because they allow non-resident marriage, same sex couples are flocking to have their relationships legalized. Hundreds of thousands of couples are expected to make the journey from wherever they live to take advantage of the new law. Analysts are calling it a mini-industry. I bet not many saw this coming. Since currently California has a monopoly on this, many businesses there are gearing up for a tourist boom. “Spending by resident same sex couples on their weddings and by out-of-state couples will boost California’s economy by over 683.6 million dollars in direct spending over the next three years,” a UCLA study reported, adding that the new industry would create around 2,100 new jobs. This has to be the only state that is prospering during the current gas crunch. Many cities are advertising themselves as “Gay Friendly” destinations and are offering special honeymoon packages. So, California or Bust, go west young couples, there’s gold in them there hills. This ought to help California’s debt problems.

PRANKSTER BANDIT CAUGHT

This would be more annoying than dangerous. A Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada man, Murray Richmond, was caught for several break-ins. He has been dubbed the “tickling bandit,” but that doesn’t describe half this guys oddities. In one case, a man awoke to find Richmond tickling his feet, and later found his washing machine full of chips and cereal. I wonder if he added dip and milk.  As well, Richmond twice broke into an 80-year-old man’s home, on one occasion saying he would be the man’s “long weekend nurse,” before stealing several items and leaving. Promises, promises, promises. A psychiatric report has reached the obvious conslusion that the man is a pathological liar and is mentally ill. Believe it or not someone gets paid to come up with these conclusions. Now that the world is safe from this merry prankster bandit, folks can sleep easier knowing their feet won’t be tickled in the night.

BORNEO BIGFOOT

A long time ago there used to be legends about a Wild Man of Borneo. P.T. Barnum had claimed he’d seen it and what he called one on display. It was actually a really hairy unkept bum he’d found and talked into joining his sideshow.  Well now there really may be something to those old Wild man stories. Tan Soon Kuang, a businessman of the Daro district in Borneo has taken photographs of two footprints that local villagers showed him. Suppossedly they measure 47 inches from heel to toe and are 17 inches across. Yes, this is a REALLY bigfoot. This is not something you want to run into on a dark night. Asked when and how he went to the village and took the photos, Tan answered: “I went there last Wednesday, June 11 after I heard about the news. I drove about five minutes from Daro town to the village. Then, I walked on foot along a footpath for quite a few minutes to the place where I met many villagers who were gathered there. Then some villagers pointed to the big footprints. I was shocked to see them and excited as I took those photographs.” On his conversation with the villagers, he said: “When I asked the villagers the first time they discovered the two big footprints, they told me it was June 9. They also told me they now recall that before they came across the footprints, the villagers had, a few months ago felt uncomfortable and sick as if there was something ‘unclean’ in the air. They said they decided to look for a ‘bomoh’ (medicine man) who told them to go to an area, dig a small hole, then build a fence around it.” Nothing like a little native superstition to add to the mystery. Like most weird prints like this, they are being called a hoax, which of course is entirely possible and even likely. Tan is refusing to name the village where he took these citing that he wishes to protect them from the public. How come there’s always something missing in these stories, like proof.

MAN KIDNAPS EX-GIRLFRIEND FOR MAID SERVICE

A man in Genoa, Italy accosted his ex-girlfriend in a local pub. He shoved her in a car and took her to his house. There she was forced to do the most obscene acts, dishes and ironing. Yes, the man was furious that she had left him, none of the housework was getting done. Police arrived after being tipped off by a friend of the woman’s who had seen her being kidnapped by the man. He was arrested. Now the jail staff will be doing his housework. Mission accomplished, I guess.

REAL IRONMAN, CUB SCOUT FRAUD, ASIAN PHOTOGRAPHY, CARVED HEART, AND VINCE YOUNG

 COULD IRONMAN BECOME REALITY?

Stephen Jacobson, a design engineer has created an exoskeleton that can increase his strength 20 times normal. It is a robotic suit that a man fits inside and can accomplish tasks that no normal human could even dream of doing. Jameson works for the development and design firm, Sarcos Inc. in Salt Lake City and is under a two year contract with the U.S. Army. Talk about reminiscent of Tony Stark and Stark industries. Though the suit is much bulkier than Ironman’s streamlined sci-fi look, it is only in the beginning stages but it does operate with many of the same principles in mind. Sarcos’ Jacobsen envisions factory workers someday using the technology to perform manual labor more easily, and firefighters more quickly carrying heavy gear up stairwells of burning buildings. Disabled people also may find uses for the technology. “We see the value being realized when these suits can be built in great numbers for both military and commercial uses, and they start coming down in cost to within the range of the price of a small car,” said Jacobsen. From Comic to reality, we could have a bunch of Ironmen running around. I think Marvel Comics should ask for royalties on this one.

CAN’T EVEN TRUST A SCOUT ANYMORE.

A former Bethlehem, Pennsylvania woman will serve up to 23 months in prison for having her 7-year-old son dress as a Cub Scout to collect money for a nonexistent cause. Now that’s just low. Sally Ann Gombocz, 51, told a Northampton County judge she wanted to apologize to anyone she hurt. I’ll bet she did. Getting your kid to panhandle as a cub scout is seriously twisted. She previously pleaded guilty to theft by deception and corruption of a minor. Gombocz had her boy tell people he was raising money for a camping trip and collected all of $69. Gombocz was sentenced Friday to six to 23 months in the county slam. She also was fined $2,000, ordered to perform community service, take parenting classes, have psychological counseling and submit to random urine screens. She also must pay restitution. I wonder if it was all worth it? That’s what you get for trying to give the scouts a black eye.

WHAT ARE THESE GUYS PHOTOGRAPHING?

OK, they didn’t teach me about this in my photography class. Check out where these cameras are aimed. How come I never get invited to these kinds of photo ops? People are aressted for taking these kinds of pictures. Actually I’ve written about people arrested for taking these kinds of pictures. It appears, in Asia, anything goes, including the lens up the skirt.

GIRLFRIEND STABS BOYFRIEND ACCIDENTALLY DURING WEIRD SEX.

Catherine McCoubrey, 25, and her 24-year-old partner had been drinking heavily. It’s amazing how alcohol would figure into this. He apparently asked her to carve the shape of a heart in him during what prosecutors called “rough sex” in February 2007, but unfortunately, she pressed too deeply. Someone has been living in the woods too long. Defence lawyer John McAmmond said the unnamed victim introduced his client to “body modification”, and had carved himself with knives before. Get a hobby. I’m thinking, something that doesn’t deal with sharp objects. McCoubrey, from Winnipeg in Canada, has now been given three years’ probation after pleading guilty to assault. The boyfriend has taken her back. Someone put the knives away.

VINCE YOUNG PARTY ANIMAL

Another NFL Quarterback parties hard. Vince Young was caught in a bar in Austin, Texas, throwing back tequila with the best of them. Matt Leinart was caught about a month ago doing beer bongs with sorority girls at his house. It appears Young took this as a challenge and is trying to outdo Leinart. Vince forgot one very important thing though, the sorority girls! It appears from these pictures that Vince may have walked into the wrong bar. I wonder if they’re listening to the Village People? Is this a male topless bar? Are those bedroom eyes looking at Vince in the second picture? Could he be the Tennessee Titan?

HUGH HEFNER, MICHAEL VICK, REALLY BAD DAY, SKULL BONG AND SUPERHEROES

HUGH HEFNER WANTS MILEY CYRUS FOR PLAYBOY

Hugh Hefner has decided that Miley Cyrus would look good gracing the pages of Playboy. When she’s of legal age of course. He thinks she would be perfect for a pictorial. Says Hef: “Sure, she’d be welcomed in the magazine. Very pretty lady. And I think to make such a big to-do over something as innocent as those [Vanity Fair] photos, I think is a reflection on how schizophrenic America is about sexuality.” I think the whole thing has gotten creepy. Miley is turning out to be a 15-year old sex symbol. Definately creepy. It adds a new dimension to playmate of the month.

KHARMA AND LAWSUITS KEEP HAUNTING MICHAEL VICK

A judge just ordered Michael Vick to pay $2.4 million to a Canadian bank for a loan he defaulted on. The former Atlanta Falcon is also required to pay $499 in interest per day and the banks attorney’s fees totalling nearly $12,000.  Michael, you had it made and threw it all away. What goes around comes around. It’s Kharma baby!  By the way, how’s quarterbacking that prison team working out for you?

EVER HAVE A REALLY BAD DAY?

Justin Hill was turning into his driveway and he ran into a car. His wife heard the crash and ran outside to see what it was all about leaving the stove going and the dinner on. Hill was hauled to the hospital as his house went up in flames. Then he was given the traffic ticket for failure to yield the right of way. Talk about insult to injury. It wasn’t even Friday the 13th.

SKULL BONG

Three teens in Texas have dug up a skull from an old grave and converted it into a marijuana bong. Kevin Wade Jones, Mathew and Richard Gonzales, all 17, dug up the grave of an 11 year old boy from 1921 in an abandoned cemetery, near Humble, Texas. They then took the skull and converted it into a pot bong. That’s just plain bad JuJu boys. The trio is being charged with corpse abuse. OK, I grew up in the 60’s, I’ve been stoned and in a cemetery, but it would never have occurred to me to “Hey man, let’s dig up some kid and make a bong out of his head.” I know I wouldn’t have been jumping on that bandwagon. I’m not usually a proponent of psychiatrists, but I’m making an exception in this case.

 IRONMAN, SPIDERMAN AND THE HULK

For those of you that saw Ironman and want to know what Marvel Studios has in store for the future, Here’s a glimpse.
